How are Christians supposed to live their lives?
Christians are called to model their lives after the life of Christ. “I have given you an example to follow, do as I have done” (John 13:15). Therefore, if we are to live the life of Christ, we must understand what kind of life He actually lived. Fortunately, the Bible contains all of the information we need to learn about what kind of life Jesus lived. The Bible says Jesus lived a life of love, sacrifice, truth, obedience, humility and poverty. Now we need to analyze our lives to find where we aren’t living God’s word, and make every effort to change so that we may be constantly growing closer to our Lord.
Now why? Why would I want to live a life like Christ? His life wasn’t glamorous, nor did He possess the finer things. His earthly existence was full of suffering and sacrifice. Why would I want that? Well, we should want to live the life of Christ because God told us to. God is our Father, and He gives us direction, rules and punishments for our own good, just like any good, loving father would. If we love God, we will want to obey Him. These rules, direction and punishments He gives us are for our salvation. It is just that simple. This is the Gospel message. So a life of suffering and sacrifice is GOOD. Those who do choose a life like Christ know it is rich in JOY on earth…rich with a true joy that can only be given from God as a reward for our obedience and the love we show Him.
